The world has been changing rapidly. Your business thrived in the past, might suffer now due to market change. The secure job you have today, might be lost tomorrow.
Competition is everywhere…and it is only getting more intense.
Your product cannot stand out…because the market is filled with other similar products.
Your company is struggling…because your competitors are bigger, have far more resources and talented people.
And don’t forget…there are also many tiny hustlers, who work harder, or at least as hard as you do.
You are stuck…in life and business.
You are trapped in your dead-end job…but you don’t know how to get out of the rat race.
Your product is not selling…but you don’t know what to do.
Your business is not working…but you don’t know why.
You came up with an unique business idea, but soon found someone else is already doing it.
You encounter blocks…and there are tons of them, different sizes, different kinds.
You secretly know what you need…
Creativity... but how?
You went to look for the best selling books about creativity or innovation, and tried to find out how to become the next Steve Jobs in your field.
However, the end result often is…
You stare at a blank paper, and still don’t know what to do.
Let’s stop all of these, and consider the alternative…
If you knew exactly how to unblock your creativity, you could simply let the ideas flow naturally.
You could stop doubting, ‘But I am not creative…’ because you’d know everyone can practice creativity.
You could stop worrying, ‘Is my idea stupid?’ because you’d understand every idea is equally valuable.
You could stop cringing, ‘I can’t come up new ideas…’ because you’d learn to miniaturize your inner critic, and to stop killing good ideas.
You could kick the heck out of your writer’s block, and create something.
You could listen to your instincts, and come up with fresh ideas and solutions.
You might even hear your inner voice saying: “JUST DO THIS, AND JUST DO THAT...”
Your mind used to be felt like a clogged sink drain, could become smooth again.
Because…you have the hunger and knowledge to remove those dirty greasy solids, and get the drain running freely.
Starting a business, creating softwares, writing a book, learning a instrument, creating a piece of art, quitting the dead-ended job… and so on.
Slowly, things and ideas could happen naturally.
Wether you're an entrepreneur, an artist, a writer, scientist or just about anybody with an internal urge to CREATE something but cannot because of distractions, fears, doubts and apprehensions, you could set yourself free.
Imagine that nice feeling.
The answer is very simple: Writing. Every. Day.
I was inspired by an idea called Morning Pages, which I learned from the famous book, “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. So what are morning pages? Here is the quote from the author:
“Put simply, the morning pages are three pages of longhand writing, strictly stream-of-consciousness: “Oh, god, another morning. I have NOTHING to say. I need to wash the curtains. Did I get my laundry yesterday? Blah, blah, blah ...” They might also, more ingloriously, be called brain drain, since that is one of their main functions..”
In short, it encourages you to write pages of three everyday, typically in the morning.
It is NOT about writing something serious like a blog post which requires structure , and gramma check.
It is about writing down anything and everything that comes into your mind. It is about pouring out all kind of stuffs of your head. And you are not supposed to edit or censor the words in any way.
It is a great exercise to clear your mind and get the ideas flowing. It is great way to help you to hear inner voices, and deep thoughts without judgments and filtering.
It can also heal you, and help you get away from mental stress and depression.
I have been doing this exercise for almost a year, and I have received dramatic results: as a blocked musician and computer programer, I began to come up with fresh product ideas, built new kind of softwares, expanded my business, bought a new drum set, and picked up some new hobbies.
Slowly, I experience more and more life shifts, small and large. I’ve also seen other people using this technique experienced great results.
This works for me and others, it will work for you.
You can do all your writing anytime, anywhere on this website, as long as you have a computer and access to internet.
You no longer need to worry about buying one journal after another, carrying it and a pen around, or forget to bring them at all.
For double spacing, it would take approximately 250 words to fill a page. So 3 pages equals to 750 words. By counting words instead of pages, it is an easy way to know how many words you have left. The site will track your progress automatically in real time, so you can just focus on your writing, instead of counting all the time.
You’ll have your own account and private space to write and store your writings. No one can read your stuff, unless you give them your password.
This is your own small private word, just let go and write everything down.
The concept is simple: beside your journals, there is a digital calendar, it will put a red circle around the date once you’ve done your writing for the day. After you keep doing the writings everyday for a while, the calendar will create a chain of circles. If you don’t get a circle on a date, then the chain will be broken. So psychologically you will want to keep doing it everyday, to avoid breaking your beautiful chain.
